BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA - Bristol Township’s fire-response system is undergoing a significant change following a decision by Township Council to reduce the number of recognized volunteer fire districts from five to four.
At its August 20, 2026 meeting, Bristol Township Council voted 5-2 to adopt an ordinance establishing new fire district boundaries. Residents can review the proposed ordinance, district map, executive summary, and meeting presentation through Bristol Township’s official fire-redistricting materials.
Four Volunteer Fire Companies Will Continue Serving the Township
Under the new structure, the township’s four recognized volunteer fire providers will be the Croydon Volunteer Fire Company, Edgely Fire Company, Levittown Fire Company No. 2, and the Third District Volunteer Fire Company.
The new boundaries redistribute the former response area of the Newportville Fire Company No. 1 among those four companies. Career personnel from the Bristol Township Department of Fire Rescue will continue supplementing volunteer crews during daytime hours.
According to reporting from LevittownNow, the council’s vote began a 30-day transition period for removing Newportville Fire Company from emergency dispatches. Third District Fire Company is expected to receive the largest portion of Newportville’s former coverage area.
What the Change Means for LFC2
The redistricting will expand the territory and emergency call volume assigned to Levittown Fire Company No. 2. Based on how calls received during 2025 would have been distributed under the new map, township information reported by LevittownNow projected approximately 61 additional calls for LFC2.
Our members remain committed to providing dependable fire suppression, rescue, and emergency response services throughout our assigned district. We will continue coordinating with neighboring volunteer companies and Bristol Township Fire Rescue to help ensure that every emergency receives an appropriate response.
Emergency Coverage Will Continue
Township officials have stated that every Bristol Township address remains within an assigned primary volunteer fire district and that no neighborhood will be left without a primary responding company.
Residents do not need to take any action because of the boundary changes. During an emergency, always call 911. The Bucks County Department of Emergency Communications will dispatch the appropriate fire company and supporting agencies based on the incident’s location and needs.
Volunteers Remain Essential
The restructuring highlights the important role volunteer firefighters continue to play in protecting Bristol Township. As the remaining companies prepare for additional territory and calls, recruiting and retaining trained volunteers will remain essential.
